I've Got My Baby Back! Gosh was it nice to be on my own rig! I got my boat back. Thanks to Harbor Lights Marina for taking care of me! The Boat sounds good and is running great. Back to the fishing, Lake Hartwell is fishing great right now. Water temp: 76 water is clear.. In my eyes, it is hard to beet the month of OCT. The weather is cooler, the fish are usually larger and You have a chance to have the whole lake to yourself! Saturday was one of the windiest days that I have ever fished on Lake Hartwell and had to fish in the main lake. Usually on a windy day you can tuck away in a cove on the leeward side to stay out of the wind. Saturday we fished the main lake and the wind was out of the north at 15-25 with at times 30 mph gusts. Thank God for Anchors. We had a great Day regardless of the wind. Fish were biting and Company was great. I would say we have a good 3 weeks of fishing before the fall turnover. Guys..... Come and get it

Fishing is Hot! The fishing has been great all week. The Stripers and Hybrids have been Schooling on the Surface. The bad news is that I lost my Lower unit on my Boat, but the Good news is my Buddys have lent me there boats to say in the Action! Water temp is around 78. The overcast days have been the best schooling action. Look for birds dipping on the water or big areas of splashes! :) Puppy Zara Spooks have worked the best for me, but a fluke will also work. Once the fish go down, I am finding them around 50-60 feet down and catching them on downrods.
Well everyone, it is back to some cool weather again. Were still catching on both Lakes right now. Jocassee is still producing a Handfull of Good trout. They are deep, but still in the reach of my Downriggers! I'm catching most of my Trout 80-100 feet. One day I will catch all my fish on Live minnows, the next it will be mixed up between Live Bait and Spoons. As for the Striper and Hybrid on Lake Hartwell: Well, they are starting to school on the surface here and there which has been exciting! It hasn't been an every day ocurace yet, but your odds are getting better with every cool night that we have had. Flukes, Sammys, Roostertail, Zara Spooks will all work when the fish are on the surface. The down rod bit has been good too. It takes a little while to locate the school every day, but when you do, it can be some fast action. Look forward to fishing hard the next few months before it
Water Temp: 85 degrees. Over all, all of last week was good fishing, at least all but one day. I was able to find some good schools of Striper/Hybrids in deep water that we were able to pick away a day of good fishing. Now we got hit with the fringe of a Tropical storm on Sunday that Nocked the fish in the head for a Day. Sometimes a Storm front will make the fish bite, but others will make the fish run and hide somewhere in all the trees that litter the Lake. Most of the fish that I have been finding have been in 65-120 feet of water in the main lake and if seems that the majority of the fish are suspended in 50 +/- feet of water. It is a numbers game this time of year. This little cool snap will get some of these fish to school, you watch! Tight lines!
Capt. Steve Pietrykowski 864-343-3438 Jocassee and Hartwell fishing report:
Jocassee 79 Degrees. Over all fishing has been fair. The trout are deep. We are catching most of the trout 70-110 feet down. Live Shinners and Spoons are working good trolled on downriggers. Live bait is working a little better then artifical. Troll slow! Night fishing has slowed for the year. Hartwell down to 84 Degrees. Over all fishing has been tough but improved fishing to be expected. Last week has been the toughest week I have had all year to put fish in the boat. It wasn't a problem finding fish, it was to get the fish to bite. Dog Days of summer have crept up on the stripers... I forcast the next couple months to improve. Expect Stripers to start to school more and more as the water temp falls. yesterday was Prime example of this... It turned out to be one of the best days I have seen in two weeks. It all came from one school of fish that started Chasing bait on the surface.... Our two big fish were 22 and 15 pounds, the rest were 4-8 pound average. I think we boated near 20... It was sure a good releif after last weeks fishing to see biting fish! Water temp is 86-87 Weather has been stable. I've been able to locate some good schools of Stripers last week. Over all it is good fishing. I didn't do big numbers of Stripers last week, but the ones we did catch are very quality fish. 7-10 pounds was the average striper last week. Matter of fact between Thurs and Friday alone, I got broke off 8 times. I might not Brake 8 fish off the Whole month certain times of the year! The 8 fish that broke off were just grown fish, and they were living near a forest on the water. Most of the fish I have been finding are in depths of 55-106 feet. It sounds like a big range and it is. The fun part is that not every day have the fish been in the same area. They have been on the move a little bit..... Here are few photos from last week! The first one was of today.... It was very good fishing today! I look for that to continue
This first picture is when I first found the fish. As you can see they were bunched up when I first found them. As the picture of the fish finder moved from right to left you can see that the school of fish moved to the bottom then when I stopped the boat that fish began to come up off the bottom and look up. This is an example to what I call movement. This is the picture that every Striper fisherman wants to see under the boat. This is what I say Spaghetti Noodles! When I got done fishing that school of fish I drove for 200 yards and this is what was on my screen. This is what you can say a Mega School! I just wanted to Share what a Mega School of Stripers looks like. Now I found these fish in 64 foot of water on what I call Clean bottom. Boy do you get a good feeling when you find a school like this!
Lake Jocassee fishing Report: Water temp 75-77 in the morning warming up to low 80's in the afternoon. I spent a good part of last week on Lake Jocassee. Over all I found some good fishing to be had. I focus on the trout in the lake. Right now I'm fishing in the range of 60-100 feet with most of my success in the 80 foot range. I... usually mix up between live bait and spoons/apex this time of year. Over all the last two days I caught all my fish on Live Shiners,or what I say Organic Jumping Pond Minnows. Little story with that is that I was feeding the catfish in the pond this Spring out of my Girl friends fathers Pond when I noticed that there were minnows that came up to feed on the catfish pellets. I went and got a Minnow seine and netted a few. They range in size from a 6 inches to 1 inch crappie minnows. No more buying the Large shiners for me at $6.50 a dozen. A find like that is like Gold! Little tip: troll slow with the live bait!
